DeConstruction Volunteers

DeCon volunteers perform partial and full-house deconstructions. The objective is to salvage usable materials such as hardwood floors, cabinets, plumbing hardware, architectural elements, doors, windows, and lumber.

Salvaging is done for two reasons. It:

  1. Provides inventory to the Habitat Wake Restore. (look for the orange tags)
  2. Prevents usable items from filling up local landfills

Be a Habitat DeCon Volunteer

Working on a DeCon crew is a great stress reliever -- there are no measurements and the primary tool is a crowbar! You can learn valuable techniques for properly disassembling homes while preserving vintage materials and diverting waste from local landfills. Pictured at right is a crew from The Redwoods Group.

We deconstruct houses year-round and organize DeCon crews for Fridays and Saturdays. Contact our Volunteer Services Manager at 919.833.1999 x223, volunteer@habitatwake.org or sign up online by clicking on either link below:

DeConstruction Program

The Habitat ReStore DeConstruction Program salvages good and usable building materials from residential homes that are being demolished or remodelled in Wake County. At a competitive fee, our staff and volunteer DeCon Crews will come on site to perform strip outs or salvage. All donations of materials are tax-deductible and will be sold in the Habitat ReStore where proceeds support Habitat Wake and the building of safe and affordable housing for those in need.
