DeConstruction Volunteers
DeCon volunteers perform partial and full-house deconstructions. The objective is to salvage usable materials such as hardwood floors, cabinets, plumbing hardware, architectural elements, doors, windows, and lumber.
Salvaging is done for two reasons. It:
- Provides inventory to the Habitat Wake Restore. (look for the orange tags)
- Prevents usable items from filling up local landfills

Be a Habitat DeCon Volunteer
Working on a DeCon crew is a great stress reliever -- there are no measurements and the primary tool is a crowbar! You can learn valuable techniques for properly disassembling homes while preserving vintage materials and diverting waste from local landfills. Pictured at right is a crew from The Redwoods Group.

DeConstruction Program
The Habitat ReStore DeConstruction Program salvages good and usable building materials from residential homes that are being demolished or remodelled in Wake County. At a competitive fee, our staff and volunteer DeCon Crews will come on site to perform strip outs or salvage. All donations of materials are tax-deductible and will be sold in the Habitat ReStore where proceeds support Habitat Wake and the building of safe and affordable housing for those in need.

- Note: Donations via our DeCon Program are accepted from households and businesses located throughout all of Wake County and its 12 municipalities including Apex, Cary, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Holly Springs, Knightdale, Morrisville, Raleigh, Rolesville, Wake Forest, Wendell and Zebulon.
