CEO Build 2011

Kevin Campbell | April 13, 2011

Yesterday, 12 area CEOs came together and began framing Shanita’s house at a site in Cary.  I was privileged to be able to spend the day working with them. I told the CEOs that they didn’t have to make any decisions on site, but to “just do as you are told and we’ll all be OK.”  I introduced our construction manager Brad McHugh, as chairman of the board for the day and Ed Rogers our site superintendent, as chair of the audit committee. CEO Build 2011 chair, Kevin Trapani of Morrisville-based The Redwoods Group reminded the group of how important community engagement is and why he feels Habitat is a good fit for the business community.  Each CEO or their company has provided $5,000 toward the sponsorship of this home and they’ve also agreed to send out work teams from their company to complete the home by the end of summer. Homebuyer Shanita stopped by on her lunch break and each CEO offered words of wisdom and best wishes to Shanita and her family.  There was much love flowing around on the deck of the home. There was no delegating, no conference calls, no photo opps.  Instead there was lots of hard work.  My deepest thanks go out to the team for their leadership in the community: Kevin Trapani, The Redwoods Group Kari Stoltz, Bank of America Jack Clayton, Wachovia Jeff Stocks, Manpower David Baldwin, Baldwin & Maria Kingery, Southern Energy Management Jim Whitehurst, Red Hat Dave Hausfeld, Drees Homes Scott Hicks, Hicks Landscaping Ray Carey, NeoNova Rick Brajer, LipoScience Special thanks, also, to other CEOs supporting this effort, but who could not join us onsite yesterday.  Unfortunately for us, duty called – one of these participants couldn’t be with us as he was testifying before Congress! Kevin Schneider, Genworth Financial Victoria Haynes, RTI Eddie Douglas, ProBuild Ken Eudy, Capstrat Nick Vlahos, Burt’s Bees Quote of the day:  “This feels like an earnings call.”  From Jim Whitehurst as a videographer took a close up of his hammering technique, scrutinizing his actions.
