Habitat for Humanity of Wake County’s annual Interfaith Build offers a new twist this year: The Children’s Baffle Project, hosted by Unity of the Triangle. The children’s work day was held on Sunday afternoon, May 21, at Unity of the Triangle. Children as young as six years old decorated pre-cut cardboard baffles, pieces of cardboard that are placed on top of attic insulation in Habitat homes. 
“We are really excited for children to be able to be part of the annual Interfaith Build,” said Rick Beech, vice president of faith relations for Habitat Wake. “Children have to be 16 to work on the construction site, but this special baffle project gives younger members of the congregations the opportunity to be involved.” Now in its fifth year, Habitat Wake’s Interfaith Build brings together a growing group of faith communities to build relationships and understanding, while constructing safe, affordable homes. A record 22 congregations are helping to build alongside Rachid Hdidane and Rahel Siyoum, who will live in the home at 3016 Camden Creek Drive, Raleigh, with their two young children. 
As the Interfaith Build grows, so does the group’s focus on a common sentiment: The Golden Rule. “The Golden Rule is found in the writings of almost every world religion,” says Renee Revaz, Habitat Wake Board member and Interfaith Build Coordinator. “By focusing on that common thread,” Revaz adds, “we have found a way to cut across our differences and as a group, and put into practice what our families have taught us for generations.” Twenty-two Wake County congregations representing nine different faith traditions – Baha’i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Sai, Sikh and Unitarian Universalist -- will help build the home, which will be completed in mid-June. Participating congregations include the Apex Mosque, Beth Meyer Synagogue, Cary Baha’i Community, Community for Mindful Living (new), Divan Center, First Baptist Church of Raleigh-Salisbury St., First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh, Hindu Society of N.C., Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church, Islamic Association of Morrisville, Islamic Association of Raleigh, Kadampa Center for Tibetan Buddhism, NCSU Muslim Student Association, Raleigh Sai Center, Raleigh Mennonite Church, St. Paul’s Christian Church, The Sikh Gurudwara of N.C., Temple Beth Or, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh, and Unity of the Triangle, Won Buddhism of N.C., and Yavneh: A Jewish Renewal Community.
