What does Thanksgiving mean to you? For many of us, the holiday brings to mind the "firsts" that make a house feel like home—your first time hosting loved ones around the table, the first holiday season in a new space, or the first memories of settling your kids into the room where they’ll grow up.
For Eugenia, this year marks all of those precious milestones. And this week? Her first Thanksgiving in her very own home. After closing on her house this fall, Eugenia is stepping into a season of gratitude and new beginnings.
When we caught up with her ahead of the holiday, she shared her bubbling excitement about her plans:
"This will be our first Thanksgiving in the new home! I’ll be hosting our family dinner, and I’m most excited to start creating new traditions. I get to watch everyone enjoy themselves in the living room while my 3-year-old gives each guest a tour of her new room—she just loves it!"
Eugenia's journey to homeownership has not been without its challenges. She knows how difficult it can be for single-income households and young families face to reach homeownership. But with her community's support and her own perseverance, she completed Habitat Wake’s Homebuyers Program and became a first time homeowner.
Reflecting on the experience, Eugenia shared her gratitude:
"I’m so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the Habitat Homebuyers program. It changed not only my life but my daughter’s future as well."
As she looks ahead to her first Thanksgiving in her new home, Eugenia's gratitude shines brightly.
"This year, I’m most thankful for every chance I get to create new memories with my family, filled with love. And I’m especially thankful for the Habitat Wake team who pushed and supported me along the way."
At Habitat Wake, we are grateful year-round for the homebuyers we are privileged to partner with and for the transformation we see in their lives through the power of affordable homeownership.
Whether you’re gathering this Thanksgiving in a home of your own or holding onto the dream of your first home, we wish you a holiday filled with warmth, health, and joy. We are deeply thankful for the work we do and the community that makes it possible.
Happy Thanksgiving!
