Habitat for Humanity is a vibrant, global, Christian organization. Our faith motivates us and is a core element of our success. We call this effort Keeping God at the Center.
Our first mission principle is to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ: We undertake our work to demonstrate the love and teachings of Jesus, acting in all ways in accord with the belief that God’s love and grace abound for all, and that we must be “hands and feet” of that love and grace in our world. We believe that, through faith, the miniscule can be multiplied to accomplish the magnificent, and that, in faith, respectful relationships can grow among all people. Our
We keep God at the center of our work:
- By living as people of faith and spirit. Devotions, prayer, retreats and other practices help our organization hear God’s voice and stay focused on what is most important in this ministry. Various resources for affiliated organizations are available on My.Habitat.
- By letting our core documents guide us. The Habitat for Humanity mission vision, mission statement and mission principles belong to all Habitat entities worldwide. The calling and aspirations expressed in these documents are foundational, dating back to the beginning of our ministry.
- By celebrating our history. Habitat’s early leaders took the Christian Scriptures and Jesus in a very serious, prophetic way. We are building on the bold vision, the get-it-done attitudes, and the deeply rooted faith of those who came before us.
- By seeking to discern God’s will. We view our work as successful when it transforms lives and promotes positive and lasting social, economic and spiritual change within a community; when it is based on mutual trust and fully shared accomplishment; and when it demonstrates responsible stewardship of all resources entrusted to us.
