Habitat Wake is focused on building a community where everyone has a decent place to live. We understand that the need for safe and affordable housing impacts everyone differently, and for some of our neighbors that means they have additional barriers to housing that we must work to address.
Data shows LGBTQ+ young people are 120% more likely to experience homelessness than non-LGBTQ youth. According to research from The Trevor Project, 28% or nearly one in three LGBTQ youth will experience homelessness at some point in their lives; 62% also reported having seriously considered suicide in the last year.
Our Pride Build provides an opportunity for Raleigh’s LGBTQ+ community and allies to come together in support of a more inclusive Wake County. By building with us, community members can come together to learn more about the unique housing challenges faced by members of the LGBTQ+ community and how to join Habitat Wake in advocating for better housing solutions for all our neighbors. Through the Pride Build, members of the community can volunteer together in an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome.
With your support, we aim to create long-term change that removes barriers to housing for all of us, and specifically addresses the harms that LGBTQ+ communities have historically had to overcome.
