This fall, Habitat Wake is proud to celebrate our veterans through a Season of Service. From September 11 – December 7, we will bring together veterans and their allies for multiple Veterans Build events aimed at honoring our service members, fostering community engagement and raising awareness of the specific housing challenges faced by the veteran community.
2.5 million veterans heading households are at least 55 years of age. Of those 2.5 million, 24% have housing cost burdens. Older veterans are also more likely to have a disability which may require home modifications, health and other supportive services as they age. Veterans Build aims to highlight these gaps and connect more veterans with resources, including Habitat Wake’s homeownership program.
Habitat Wake’s Veterans Build seeks to provide veterans and military-connected families with the opportunity to contribute to the construction or repair of affordable homes in our community. In doing so, we hope to create a space for veterans to connect with each other and continue to serve. Veterans Build is supported by Habitat Wake’s own employee veteran group.
