Today, we are excited to welcome former WNCN-TV news anchor, Sean Maroney, to the Habitat Wake staff. Sean’s position as our first-ever Major Gifts Officer is part of our growing commitment to our community. We want to do more as an organization to meet the enormous housing need in Wake County. We want to build more safe, affordable homes for hardworking families to buy. (Our goal is to grow from 57 to 70 new homes this year.) We want to be a more impactful voice for those in our community who need safe, affordable housing. We also want to help more people access housing at every stage of the continuum. We want to influence the construction of affordable rental units throughout the county, and again, we want to build more Habitat homes.
While Sean is new to our staff, he has been a friend to Habitat for many years. Sean was first introduced to Habitat “as a kid” by his father, and Habitat Wake was the first nonprofit he contacted when he joined WNCN five years ago. As the evening anchor over that time period, we have frequently benefited from Sean’s passionate storytelling and ability to uncover both needs and good deeds in our community. You may recognize Sean beyond the anchor desk, as he has volunteered on build sites, served as a Table Captain for the annual Blueprint Breakfast and emceed the last three Habitat Home Tours.
We are thrilled that Sean has chosen nonprofit work for his next chapter and that we are sharing that chapter with him. In Sean’s words, his goal is to connect those who need help, with those who want to make a difference in our community. Together, we will do more for our neighbors, both families and individuals who are in need.

Please join me in welcoming Sean Maroney to the Habitat Wake staff, and I hope you’ll join with us to do more!
