Habitat Wake homes are sold to qualified homeowners who make mortgage payments that are no more than 30 percent of their income. In addition, homeowners volunteer 200 ‘sweat equity’ hours in the ReStores or on the build site and complete homeowner education so they are prepared to succeed as homeowners.
We empower individuals and families who qualify to build and buy their homes. We evaluate applications for homeownership on three criteria:
- need for housing,
- ability to pay, and
- willingness to partner.
Our homeowners are people you see around you every day providing much needed services in the community—school bus drivers, sherriff’s deputies, CNAs, bank tellers, food service workers, taxi drivers.
We partner with homebuyers based on financial qualifications and does not discriminate against potential clients based on an applicant’s race, color, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, religion, or handicap.
This year, 60 families will build and purchase homes of their own.
