Community Builds

This Saturday, a coalition of Latino churches, organizations and individuals will swing hammers together in support of first-time Habitat home buyer Lissethe Nieves. 

June 5-9, local professional builders and construction experts will join Habitat for Humanity of Wake County to build five safe, affordable homes in one week during the annual Home Builders Blitz. The project kicks off on Monday, June 5 at 9 a.m., when Habitat leaders, builders and sponsors will help raise the walls of a future home located at 5528 Neuse View Drive.

On March 24, the construction phase of the Building Together campaign kicked off in Wake County as volunteers from Wake County Public School System and the community built and raised the walls for Roxanne's new home.

Thanks to 2,000 volunteers investing more than 10,000 hours on the construction site, the Build-A-Block project to construct 11 Habitat Wake townhomes on Kirk Avenue is nearly halfway through construction. Build-A-Block is a collaboration of Habitat Wake and NC State to build safe, affordable homes in partnership with the local community.

Habitat for Humanity of Wake County will dedicate the homes of Omega Smith and Ronea Hopkins on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 6:00 p.m. at 949 Skinner Drive in Raleigh. The event is open to the public. The Smith home is Habitat Wake’s 2016 Home for the Holidays, and is one of 60 homes Habitat Wake is building this year. Both homes were built and funded primarily by women as part of Habitat Wake’s Women Build program and will be dedicated together.

Habitat for Humanity of Wake County, Lowe's, and the North Carolina State Fair are partnering to build the "North Carolina House" during the 2016 State Fair, which opens Thursday, October 13.

The "North Carolina House" will be constructed of materials manufactured in North Carolina or sold by North Carolina-based companies, and the majority of volunteers building the house are state employees and event sponsors.

On Wednesday, Sept. 7, NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson and Susan Woodson will join project sponsors, students from the Habitat Campus Chapter at NC State University, and Habitat Wake partner families to kick off the construction of 11 new Habitat for Humanity of Wake County townhomes. The homes are a part of the historic Build-A-Block project, the largest collaboration between a Habitat campus chapter and a Habitat for Humanity affiliate. The homes are located on Kirk Avenue off Lake Wheeler Road near NC State University.

Habitat for Humanity of Wake County recently partnered with Lutheran Services Carolinas, The Serving Cup, and a large team of donors and volunteers to build three homes for adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. The project is known as Building Independence, and the new houses on Lake Wheeler Road in Raleigh will transform life for the nine adults who will move into the homes in the coming weeks.
